🇿🇼🇬🇧 ZIMBOS IN THE UK: 6 THINGS IN THE 2026 BUDGET THAT COULD AFFECT YOUR LIFE IN BRITAIN!
If you came to the UK to work, support your family, save money and build a better future, these announcements are worth understanding.
Whether you’re on a Skilled Worker visa, working in healthcare, looking after your family or planning to settle in the UK, here’s what the new Budget could mean for you.
Let’s break it down in simple English.
💷 1. YOUR PAY COULD INCREASE
From April 2027, the National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over increases from £12.71 to £13.21 per hour.
That’s an extra 50p per hour before tax.
If you’re working full-time on minimum wage, this could make a difference to your monthly payslip.
⚡ 2. £100 HELP WITH ENERGY BILLS
Living in Council Tax Band A, B, C or D?
Eligible households in England are expected to receive £100 towards energy costs from January 2027.
The government is also planning to remove gas standing charges by the end of 2027.
This could help families dealing with rising household expenses.
💰 3. SAVING MONEY? YOUR ISA ALLOWANCE IS SAFE
There were plans to reduce the Cash ISA allowance, but these have been dropped.
You can still save up to £20,000 per tax year in an ISA without paying UK tax on the interest, provided you meet the eligibility requirements, including UK tax residence.
For those of us working hard to build savings in Britain, this is worth knowing.
📈 4. TAX ON SAVINGS OUTSIDE AN ISA WILL INCREASE
From April 2027, tax rates on savings interest outside ISAs will increase by two percentage points.
If you have savings sitting in an ordinary bank account, you may want to understand how this affects you.
Remember, the amount of tax you pay depends on your income and Personal Savings Allowance.
🛂 5. IMPORTANT FOR SKILLED WORKER VISA HOLDERS
There is a proposed change for highly skilled sponsored workers.
From 2027, eligible workers who lose their sponsored job could have up to SIX MONTHS to find another sponsor or make alternative immigration arrangements, instead of the usual 60 days.
But please take note: this is NOT a six-month extension for every Skilled Worker visa holder. The measure is aimed at the highest-skilled eligible workers.
If you’re on a Health and Care or another Skilled Worker route, don’t assume this automatically applies to you.
🏠 6. DREAMING OF OWNING A HOME IN THE UK?
A new government home-buying scheme is expected to start in 2027.
It is intended to help eligible first-time buyers purchase new-build homes in England through a government equity loan.
However, if you’re on a temporary visa, don’t assume you automatically qualify. Immigration status, mortgage affordability and the scheme’s eligibility rules all matter.
